What Would You Tell The Politicians if You Could ??

From reading a lot of posts and comments on the Vine, it is evident that people can agree about one thing.  We are fed up with the Politicians of both parties !!!  I guess that is normal when all we receive from both parties are lies and propaganda used as vote bait.

What would you tell them if you could get them to listen ??  Would it be to stop the politicization of America before we destroy the unity of America ??  Would it be to tone down the rhetoric and put people back to work ??  Would it be to realize that America is more important than either party ??  Those are the things I would tell them.

What would you tell them ??  I'd like to know.  Please respect your fellow Viners.

Can we have a discussion without it devolving into a party divide, and attack of the parties themselves ??  If not how can we ever get past the problems we now face ??

I'd really like to think so.

To keep religion out of politics and to start doing the job that they were elected to do - job creation, fixing the economy and infrastructure are some big ones. Enough with the three ring circus acts. And for crying out loud....close Gitmo!

I'm all for infrastructure! Of course, I'm a civil engineer, so that might be a little self serving. My main focus is the continued separation of religion and government, for the good of both of them. There is wayyy too much time and energy devoted to promoting and resisting theocratic intrusion into government. How about redirecting that energy into ensuring that practical and affordable education is available to everyone who wants it, so we can secure our position as a world leader in technology.

I'm pleased to see people responding in a positive manner. Constructive criticism is well merited. That is what America is built on.

Dopes this old heart good to se people are still able to communicate without the diatribes of rhetoric along party lines.

There might be hope for America yet.

Well.....

1. Grow up. Behave like adults and REMEMBER that you represent ALL of America. You are being a crappy example to the world with your grandstanding and behavior.

2. You are not above the law. Stop this insider trading BS.

3. Get rid of lobbyists. They are preventing you from doing your job.

4. Education....

5. Infrastructure. Our nation would benefit from the investment.

6. Religion and politics do not mix.

7. Compromise.... look it up in the Dictionary would ya?

8. Spend a week in a job doing minimum wage, or spend a week in a public school.
Then we will talk.

9. Make elections publicly funded.

10. You are first an American. You are representing the GREATEST nation on this planet, and you are representing an amazing bunch of people. We are a mix of many races and creeds. Your job isn't easy, but you forget that WE the people put you there.

I'd say

What's so wrong about spending a little money on America? We spend gobs of money financially supporting insolvent countries, fighting nearly endless wars in places where we deem their stability to be more important than our own. Meanwhile our bridges are crumbling, our people are sick and dying, and our homes are being illegally foreclosed upon

And why are we creating artificial price supports that benefit the Mexican drug cartels? They make 90% of their money from marijuana, which some Americans are able to buy in stores, and yet the government keeps it illegal and the only rationale for it that I can see is to support the drug cartels who would collapse if MMJ were to be made legal.

We started off the millennium with a war. In the second decade we expanded one war into Pak and are now involved in another military conflict. This is not about justifying our actions, we have seen leadership can almost always justify/market their actions.

So the Challenge is

Can the US go ten years without involvement in military conflict?

Just once I would like to see leadership spend half as much time and resources justifying peace.

Amen !!!

Can we spend the money on helping people instead of killing them ??? Hmmm ??? An America that would really stand for Liberty and justice for all. I'd love to see that before I die.

I just sent my rep an email last night, asking if he was going to allow our taxes to go up after fighting tooth and nail to protect the 1% previously. I asked why the "earmark" pipeline bill was attached to the extension when a couple of months ago he refused to sponsor a bill to keep a very unwanted mine from here (not even an American company) siting a refusal to do earmarks. Then I reminded him he represents all his constituents, not just the teaparty and that we were all watching him.

I'd tell you, but, being a lady forbids it.... ;-)

Actually.

STOP playing politics with the lives and livelihood of Americans.

Do your darn job!

Spend money on our infrastructure....the terrorists aren't destroying us, we are crumbling from the inside out!!

Those are the three major ones at this moment.....now, back to work....

First, I would tell them to stop the useless posturing and do their damn job.

Second, if they don't stop posturing, we will half their salaries and take away any more terms, no more re-elections.

Third, I would send all of them back to college for some basic economics classes.

And finally, if they still didn't get it together , I would tell them what I tell any employee that isn't doing the job. "You're fired."

In the spirit of Christmas, I think I would go all "Christmas Carol" on them. The ghosts of America would show them just how great this country once was, how it is today, and how their policies and practices are affecting the future of our country.

First would be the ghost of America past. They'd be blown away at the thought of politicians compromising for the good of the coutnry. They'd be blown away at the respect shown for other viewpoints, and the tolerable level of discourse that used to rule our political system.

Then, we'd come to the ghost of America present. Let them witness our citizens without Christmas, because of the gaems that our politicians have played for the past few years. Let them witness the packed homeless shelters and soup kitchens. Let them talk to a few homeless veterans who gave their sanity serving our country, and now only expect the promises they were made be kept.

Then, let's move on to the ghost of America future. Let them see how their games are ruining our country. Let them see the impact of their lobbyists, and the impact of their "just say no" attitude. Let them see the starving members of future generations who could have been saved if they would have simply made their job about their country, rather than their next re-election cycle.

After that, would you really need to say anything at all?

Congress does not need to compromise. The need to compromise comes from the desire to cheat the system and add something to the law without submitting it to a genuine vote, and feel compelled to answer for the results of their vote.

If they restricted themselves to principle, that is, one law per bill, they could simply vote on it--and they could be held to answer individually for an individual vote for an individual law.

In short, all the bad laws, including the new gestapo law, that get on the books are merely a result of the complete failure of ethics on their part--and they deserve to be removed from office: the whole lot of them.
