Religion or Relationship ??

Politicians in the GOP/TP try to seem very religious in my views of them.  They will come up with scriptures from The Old Testament and say that the laws of God are not being followed and that is why we are in so much trouble in America.  They are after all politicians and are not above trying to use the Name of God in vain for their personal gain.  One of the reasons I reject the party and their "conservatism" is their lack of understanding between religion and relationship.

Religion as it is practiced by most in the world, is mans attempt to reach up to God and be pleasing to God by our works in the flesh.  It isn't the way it is, and it doesn't work that way.  If it did then Jesus Christ dying on the cross for our sins was a waste of time, and wasn't needed.  These supposed "christians" don't see that when they say our behavior determines where we will end up.  They think by their religion they are saved.  They are still stuck on the same belief system that those of the Jewish beliefs hold as true, that by trying to follow the laws of God we are made perfect by upholding the law.  They seem to ignore the fact that only One was able to perfectly uphold the law and therefore is worthy.  It is His sacrifice and our acceptance of Him that makes us acceptable, not trying to follow a set of laws that is impossible for us to follow.

It is like the difference of a stranger being caught trying to enter your home, or one of your children or grandchildren trying to enter your home.  You don't know the stranger and would wonder at their intent is trying to get into your house ?  Having a relationship with your children or grandchildren you are willing to listen as to why they wanted to come in what they needed.

I think many people who claim Christ are strangers to Him, they have no relationship with Him other than the words they have read or heard.  They are religious, but not in Christ.  They have no driving need of Him, no longing to be with Him, no understanding of Who He really is, no relationship with Him and therefore no relationship with His Father or The Holy Spirit.  They have their religion and their belief in it.

If one does not have a relationship with Whom one claims to be a follower of ?? What does it say about the claimed beliefs of the claimant ??  To me it says the person is a self deluded believer in the power of the flesh over the power of God.  I don't want my leaders to be like that.  Either be honest and tell the truth about their using His Holy Name for their own personal gain, or become a follower of Christ and follow His narrow path.  One or the other, because hypocrites are not welcomed anywhere.

Though I may not agree with atheists, they are honest in their stated beliefs so far as to say they do not believe in God.  I respect them more than I do the hypocrites who claim God, but display no such fruit in their lives. To me there is more hope for the honest unbeliever than there is for the self deceived believer who has no such belief as evidence in their daily lives.

With their religion they destroy those who follow them and convert to their faulty ways.  They are the ones who will cry out to Jesus Christ when He tells them to depart for I never knew you.  They will not understand then that it was them who was wrong and not those who Loved God and people more than anyone or anything else.  They will  understand that their religion is useless and it does nothing but lead them to hell for all the lies they held as truth and for denying the relationship that could have saved them.

I listed this under politics since the politicians seem to be trying to infiltrate the churches today to be elected based on the lies they tell.  I have no relationship with them and I do not allow their evil into my home.  I have a relationship with Jesus Christ and He has opened my eyes to the self deceptions of those who try to use Him for their personal gain.

Don't get stuck in religion.  It is a snare of the self righteous, and doesn't lead to heaven any more than any other beliefoutside of a  relationship with Him.

As always your comments are welcome.  Agree or disagree, just please do not attack your fellow Viners.

We don't need politicians to be self serving liars about their beliefs.

We need servants who know who they serve. Not themselves and the corporations they prop up as persons.

Thank you, peace to you and have a great day.

I'm really a simple kind of guy. I believe what I believe and know what I know. I still make errors and when I realize them I repent of them in Him.

The war is still a festering wound for me, to much death and useless killing of women, men and children, with nothing but a loss to all. No glory in killing others only the sorrow later and the realization of what one is capable of under certain circumstances. It is what one does to the living that allows one to do to the dead.

I just don't want the hell of war anymore. I know what it brings, and it is not peace.

Very well put....there are "religious" people in all churches that do not know the Lord, then there are people in those same churches that have that one on one relationship with him. The problem today is that most don't understand the difference.

Truett:

Thanks.

To me the problem is that most churches today don't teach the difference. We have preachers, pastors, "reverends", priests, and so called teachers who allow the flock to wander away and do not go after them and provide the word of God that can bring them into His fold.

They are to busy trying to be popular, make money and fill their pews to be concerned with delivering the Truth of God in Jesus Christ. That is why we have so many politicians in the pulpits instead of men of God.

The falling away has begun.

I appreciate your comment. Stand strong in Christ my friend.

I think you hit one of the problems right directly on the head. One of the things that I refuse to allow people to call me is reverend, I am no one to be revered, if they want to revere someone revere the Lord Jesus Christ. Once we start revering men we start following their teachings instead of searching for the Lords will. The idea that a minister is come kind of secular leader has crept in to the point that people have forgotten that the minister in scripture is described as a servant, and until we turn that way of thinking around we will have people following the religion of man instead of following God.

Truett:

Yes, Revered is held for God not man.

Also, many look for honor from the people when the Honor belongs to God. He is the True Way we are His servants just doing what we should do.

If we are looking for material gain through His Name we are in trouble. Politics don't belong in the Church nor do political divides because He is not Political. If we are truly His then we are joined in Him and have nothing greater that could divide us.

Politics in my view are the ways of the devil to divide and conquer the message of Christ.

The idea behind what your are expressing here is what I would consider to be more correct than the classic view. How many parents would go around telling others what a parent they were, and offer advice to those perceived to be performing at a lesser standard. How many husbands or wives would profess to the the model couple, and offer advise on marriage. Like you, I am suspect of the horn tooters. How do we measure Love....in pounds, by the yard or hour?

I only know how to measure Love in one way. He died for us so that we could live in Him, and be forgiven through Him.

If we are willing to die to ourselves so that He lives in us we are filled by His Love.

If we are willing to die to ourselves

Therein lies the ultimate challenge for us.
